Priorities

Our lives are busy. Everyone I know, literally EVERY ONE I know,  struggles to balance work/family/school/home responsibilities/fitness, etc. I know that I certainly do. There is a never ending supply of projects and "To Do" lists that never get completely finished. That makes it really easy to put off chipping away at the thornier tasks that require perseverance and commitment. Coach Suz likes to say, “Don't say you don’t have time, say IT’S NOT A PRIORITY”.  For example:

I didn’t workout – it’s not a priority

I should have called my mom – it’s not a priority

I didn’t food prep – it’s not a priority

I didn’t read 10 pages of that book – it’s not a priority

I didn’t spend quality time with my family – it’s not a priority

I should eat better – it’s not a priority

I want to lose those last 10 lbs – It’s not a priority

I want to …….

People are busy...work, groceries, kids, homework, health issues, animals, houses, cars, the list goes on and on. I'm not writing this to make anyone feel bad about themselves. We all do this. I am just asking you to consider if the things that you are prioritizing on a daily basis are going to get you where you want to be 6 months or a year or 10 years from now? Is there one thing that you are doing every day that is moving you closer to where you ultimately want to be?

It’s a hard lesson.  Sometimes we really don’t have time. Often though, being too busy or not having time is just an excuse for just not having the motivation. And relying on motivation is a slippery slope because there are going to be a lot of days when we just don't feel like it. Motivation will fail you. Often those are the best days to solidify your commitment. The more times you can do it even though you don't feel like it, the engrained it will become as a habit. If something is really important to you (like exercise, for example...), don't rely on motivation to consistently get you there. Make it a priority.
