CrossFit Total

CrossFit Total: You've been asking for it and now is the time. Maybe you have been around for awhile and are ready to retest and measure your progress. Maybe you are new and tired of not knowing your 1 rep maxes. Either way, the CrossFit Total is one of the best benchmarks of strength you can find. Yes, I know most of you are endurance focused and like going long rather than going heavy. I do too. Still, this is an important component of fitness and it can't be ignored in a well-rounded program. We will schedule this over 2 days the first week of November and will lay out the plan for both days well in advance. Look for a post on this coming soon. The event schedule requires a "time"; it will be at all WODs!

Friday Night Lights

Friday Night Lights--Halloween Style: Mark your calendars for Friday October 30. We will be hosting another Friday Night Lights (FNL), but with a Halloween twist. As always, the workout will be a benchmark workout sure to make you earn your treats. Workout heats will kickoff at 5, 5:30, and 6 (and 6:30 if needed). After party starts as soon as you finish your workout. Costumes are optional, but come on...it is the night before Halloween.

Intro Session

Mark your calendars for Tuesday, October 27th. We will be hosting a free intro session at 6 PM for anyone interested in CrossFit, but not sure how to start. The session will include an overview of what CrossFit is along with how and why it works. We will teach a mini-class complete with a workout. Finally we will talk about how Catacombs works and why we think we are so special. We will stick around to answer questions and get you lined up with next steps if you are ready to commit after testing the waters.

CrossFit Endurance

You asked for it so we are doing it. We are adding one CrossFit Endurance workout to the schedule RIGHT NOW to start building that base. What is CFE? It's a tried and true endurance sports training program that combines the tenants and benefits of CrossFit with the sport specificity, needs, and performance goals of an endurance athlete. We focus on increasing power and speed while decreasing recovery time, reducing injury, promoting preservation of lean tissue and creating a more sustainable performance curve. We eliminate unnecessary volume from training while increasing intensity. This is not your typical long slow distance endurance training program, but it works.

Mondays at 6 PM will become CrossFit Endurance workouts beginning June 8th. They are open to all Catacombs members. Sign up rules and class limits apply as always. Still have questions? Email tracie@crossfitcatacombs.com. Stay tuned for more information on the Catacombs Endurance Team.

Pushing for the Cure

Pushing for the Cure: This is a fundraiser for the Mercy Breast Cancer Center hosted by the Vault on October 24th. It is a team-based competition and it would be awesome to send a few teams from Catacombs to support and represent. There are scaled options for everyone so don't use that as your excuse. We can help organize teams if you let us know that you are interested. Sign up sheet is on the front desk. Catcombs Endurance Team

CrossFit Catacombs & the Durango Running Company are partnering with the Durango Double to bring you a fun, team-based 10-week half marathon training program. Using the principles of CrossFit Endurance and insight from local runners, the Team will work together develop the skills and abilities to successfully complete either the trail 1 ⁄ 2 marathon or the road 1 ⁄ 2 marathon offered at the Durango Double on October 10 & 11, 2015. The program kicks off July 30th at 5:30PM at Catacombs with a goal setting session, form analysis, and one on one intro session with the coaching staff.

Youth Strength & Conditioning Program

It is time to T-Up! Turn-Up your strength, power, speed, explosiveness, and overall athleticism. Catacombs’ youth-specific strength and conditioning program helps athletes achieve physical and mental gains in a chosen sport and target weak areas. As a strong, well-balanced athlete, participants will be at less risk for injury during the season and are better prepared to withstand hard training and competition.

Free Intro Class

Catacombs will be offering a FREE INTRO CLASS on Sunday, June 7th at 4 PM for those interested in learning more about CrossFit. No experience required; this is a beginner level class. CrossFit can be intimidating, and starting something new can be terrifying. Come meet our coaches, ask us your questions, and get a good workout in. Then decide if you are ready to let go of your fear and start the journey. We will also open up registration for our next Starting Line Course at this event. Friday Night Lights Kick-off

Friday evening classes are almost always a rocking crew, but Friday Night Lights will be exceptional. Staying true to my Texas heritage, we plan to pay a monthly homage to Friday Night Lights with a benchmark workout.  Friday Night Lights involve performing a benchmark workout which are typically epic and will be periodically repeated to measure progress. Otherwise, how do you know that this stuff is working? Heats will be run to accommodate large crowds and to allow you to cheer on your fellow athletes while enjoying your favorite recovery beverage.  August 15th will be the first of this fall series. CrossFit Total

This is a rite of passage for new CrossFitters and a benchmark of fitness for seasoned veterans. The CrossFit Total is the sum of the best of three attempts at three different lifts (deadlift, back squat, and press). Knowing these numbers is a powerful tool for you as an athlete and me as your coach to assist in scaling workouts and strength sets. This is an important data point for everyone..not just those of you interested in lifting heavy weights. Put it on your calendar now and be here. I promise it will improve the quality of the work you are able to do over the next 6 months. We will run a special 2-hour session from 5PM to 7PM as it is difficult to get this in under an hour. If you can come at this time, you should as the atmosphere and setup will improve your results. Then, stick around for social hour and bring your favorite recovery beverage. We will run this as the WOD for regular class times as well if you absolutely can't make the evening session. Stay tuned for more details; this one is for current Catacombs members only.

Nutrition 101

You didn't think I was going to let this go forever, did you? The work you do in the gym is fantastic, but it will only take you so far. What happens in the kitchen (or at midnight in the bar) matters as much if not more. This will be an informal "chalk talk" where we lay out the basics of our nutritional philosophy and help you identify a starting point for making some positive changes. No commitment required... it's just information.
