Pete is a beacon of light in the Catacombs community, or more of a lighthouse really, since he stands a full head above the rest. Pete has spent his entire life skiing, biking, and backpacking, and he doesn’t take these activities for granted. But like many of us, he didn’t know just how much joining a gym would improve his technique, stamina, and overall enjoyment of these sports.

A Colorado native from the Denver area, Pete has been in Durango for over 15 years and found Catacombs in 2017. His passion for skiing brought him a deep appreciation for the mountains and being outside. It also caused a torn ACL, which he actively rehabbed while starting at Catacombs. He was grateful to learn that you can keep moving, even while injured, and felt supported by the coaches to move safely.

Pete brings joy and an active interest in learning to every class. He has great goals (like working on the overhead squat and improving single-leg movements) and recently started attending more Strength classes. He has been working on heavy back squats lately, calling them “hard but fulfilling.” Pete enjoys coming to class because of the support from the coaches; “they encourage and support you, but also have the ability to take your movements and form to the next level.” He also loves the other people in his classes, the community that Catacombs fosters, and says it is “great to work out with people you like.”

When Pete is not building muscle or taking backcountry turns, he can be found playing guitar in the Durango-based band Stillwater, road-tripping out to Joshua Tree, reading The River Why, or listening to classic rock. He said his daily life is better since joining Catacombs, and we must say ours is as well!
